From Jam to Published: Tides Under All
It all started out with the OST Composing Jam #7. I, along, 649 other applicants, were prompted with two choices, the words "Inside My World" or the picture :
Immediately the picture stood out to me... where is this underwater world, who is the girl, and who is the bubble girl she's talking to? I gravitated to themes of nature and exploration. As such I decided to create a soundtrack with themes of "botanica" music. Botanica is a subgenre of electronic ambient music that I've been exploring. Essentially it focuses on nature sounds, foley, synths, organic instrumentation and textural glitches. The style of botanica I've been exploring also takes inspiration from Hip Hop and Hyperpop drums, with loud bass and sporadic hihats.
Next was actually making the soundtrack. My idea was to use one file to seamlessly transition from different ideas. Ideas such as exploration, a fight scene, a reward scene. All basic game events one might come across.
For the actual creation I mostly used indie instruments and synths. Think folk guitars, bright synths, pianos and hand drums. Then I used heavy effects with a combination of delays, reverbs, spatial panning and granulizes to get all the depth required so the listener feels a part of the the world I'm trying to create.
After too many hours I had a demo I was comfortable posting: https://itch.io/jam/ost-composing-jam-7/rate/2834928
After all the rating was done I overall placed 39th out of 650!! Although this meant I didn't make the top 20 allowing me to get reviewed by the professional panel, this was an amazing result for my first OST jam.
Because of this, I decided to release it on streaming services. But first, I reworked a few bits and added 2 new songs to the end so I could fully encapsulate the vision I was after but had to cut short due to time constraints.
Thus, I bring to you... tides under all! https://open.spotify.com/track/1a6RPJxo1GEi01RLR8Dhqd?si=87c85d6ca12247c6
